Lightning struck twice in the same series. The Tampa Bay Lightning snatched game 3 away from the veteran Black Hawks. Paquette’s scored with 3 minutes, 11 seconds to go in the third period over the over the favored vets , giving the young Bolts a 2-1 series lead. The Blacks came into the series as the favorites to win the Stanley Cup but Tampa is making short work of the rumor. Paquette is definitely the gamer. In the beginning of the series hitting goals right out the gate at the start of each game. Next match up is going to be a good one as Chicago tries to stay alive in the series.
Women’s World Cup Soccer has kicked off with a passing grade from the US Women’s soccer team. Megan Rapinoe’s goal put the US over Australia 3-1 in Group D competition. A more conditioned US team showed their aggressiveness in the second half showing dominance by scoring 2 goals. The women’s soccer team came to play. Even though Australia came out to be the better team in the first half. The Americans overcame the odds and was able to pull out the win in the second half Monday evening in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is deferentially a new and improved US Women’s soccer team.
In other sports news, the MLB Draft was completely taken by storm with overall picks with shortstops. In the first round was the top three picks: Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman and Brendan Rodgers. Players that were under the radar but could be potential money makers came up stolen all across the board early in the draft. The three picks may have been the talk but it was all about the steals last Monday with the lower expected players. In pre-draft rankings Kevin Newman was given the No. 2 slot of best hitters in college. Sliding 16 slots previously but still the one coming out of Arizona the prime suspect. The number 1 overall pick was Dansby Swanson. The Arizona Diamond Backs, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies have all pick the top three shortstops right off the bat (pun intended). Cornelius Randolph made pick No. 10 in the draft and is off to Philadelphia Phillies. Day 1 picks were nothing short of shortstops this draft season.
