Luniz is an American hip hop duo from Oakland, California, best known for their 1995 hit single “I Got 5 on It.” The group consists of two members: Yukmouth (Jerold Dwight Ellis II) and Numskull (Garrick Demond Husbands). They were initially signed to the record label Jive Records and later became independent artists.
“I Got 5 on It” became a defining anthem of the 1990s West Coast rap scene, known for its catchy hook and laid-back yet party-ready vibe. The song, from their debut album Operation Stackola, is considered a classic in the genre. While Luniz didn’t replicate the same level of commercial success after that, they still maintained a dedicated fan base and remained relevant in West Coast hip-hop.
The duo’s music often touched on themes like street life, partying, and personal struggles, reflecting their experiences growing up in Oakland.
