#DopeGirloftheDay | How This Utah Wife & Mother Became Youtube Famous

Raised in Tijuana, Mexico, 25-year-old Ginny Gasu is a wife, mother, Youtuber, and makeup artist who currently lives in Bountiful, Utah. She’s amassed over 55,000 Youtube subscribers while staying true to her culture, motherhood, and passions.

What inspired you to start posting videos and when did you start?

I would always watch Youtube videos all day and then I thought, “Hey, I can do that too”. I started posting videos in 2014.

How did you gain your Youtube following?

It took me a while to start gaining subscribers because the first 3 years of my Youtube journey I wasn’t consistent, I would post videos whenever I wanted to and some weeks I wouldn’t even post videos. At the beginning, I was trying to make videos similar to other big Youtubers, and I feel like I wasn’t myself.

“I was trying to make videos similar to other big Youtubers, and I feel like I wasn’t myself.”

Since I had my son, I started making videos that I’m passionate about. I try to help other girls in different things like weight loss, breastfeeding, being a mom, makeup and a lot of other stuff. That’s why I’m growing everyday! I’m at 55,156 subscribers today 🙂

Do you get paid for your videos?

Yes I do! I get paid from Youtube and I also do sponsored videos sometimes.

What lighting/camera and editing programs do you use?

For my sit-down videos I use my Canon t5i with natural lighting! For my vlogs, I use the Sony 5100, and I edit on Final Cut Pro X.

How do you find time to create content as a mother and a wife?

It’s hard sometimes because I have to be very organized. Since I changed my lifestyle to a healthier one, I have more energy and I do more things now. I go to the gym at 4:40am, then I clean my house, my baby wakes up at 8:00 am, then I feed him and play with him until his first nap, and that’s when I film a video.

“I just try to do as much as I can without neglecting being a mother and a wife because that’s the most important thing for me.”

During the day I try to interact with my subscribers on Instagram because I’m trying to grow there too — that’s my main goal this month. I cook, and when my husband comes back from work, that’s when I edit videos because that’s what takes a lot of my time. A vlog could take up to 6 hours to edit! I just try to do as much as I can without neglecting being a mother and a wife because that’s the most important thing for me.

How much weight did you lose and how did you do it?

I’ve lost 65 lbs so far. I started in August when I joined my gym and I started eating healthy. It has been the best decision of my life and I’m really proud! (Watch Ginny’s ‘Como Baje 10 Kilos En 1 Mes” here)

What advice do you have for a girl who wants to start a Youtube channel?

To be herself and to do it because you love it not because of the money, that takes a long time to come. To be CONSISTENT! And to enjoy the ride because there’s going to be people that love what you do, but there’s going to be a lot of hate too.

You’re bilingual, but I love that you record your videos in your first language, Spanish. How important is it to you to represent your culture in your videos?

I love being Latina! In a world that is changing values, it’s really important to know who I am and to never change that. I love to inspire people and to show them that we can be successful, too. If we put our mind into it, we can accomplish anything.
