Can you imagine a day without Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Rihanna or Beyonce, and all of their divalicious music? Or a day without any woman? Yeah, not me. And I’m pretty sure you boys would be sad too. And lost. Very lost. Well apparently tomorrow Mar. 8 is ‘A Day Without A Woman’! The Women’s March group is organizing another event in protest of the ‘equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity’. The march back on Jan. 21 brought together more than 5 million people worldwide including celebrities like Janelle Monae, Alicia Keys and Katy Perry among many others. ‘A Day Without A Woman’ will take place this Wednesday and women are encouraged to do one or all of the following, 1) not work, 2) avoid shopping (except for small female-owned businesses), and 3) wear red in protest. The protest will be focused on the absence of women and is just another event part of the Women’s March 100 days of action. There has been some backlash about some schools being closed in anticipation and statements that suggest this day is a day for ‘privileged’ women to take a day off of work, but come on guys, they have good intentions. Now I did not participate in the Women’s March back in January and I can’t say that I will not go to work tomorrow, but I do have respect for the mission of the Women’s March group and what they and many women around the world are trying to accomplish for women. So maybe I will just buy those cute heels the day after and who knows, I might even wear red tomorrow! It’s really not that serious guys. Because if we can agree on just one thing, it’s that we are women and we freaking rock!
