I grew up here in Salt Lake City for all but 2 and a half years of my life. Those couple years I lived in a small community on the Navajo reservation called Newcomb. Newcomb is located between Shiprock and Gallup in New Mexico. I graduated from Newcomb High School, which was actually combined with the Junior High. I had friends who lived with no running water or even electricity. So as you can tell, some resources can be pretty scarce. That’s why it touched me to hear about what one WVC teen is doing for our youth that live on the “rez”.
According to Fox 13 News, Kate De Groote has collected many books and plans to donate them to children on the Navajo reservation. What an awesome gesture! Just think about the smiles on student’s, teacher’s and parent’s faces when these books that weigh over 2,500 pounds get delivered.
Now with the weight of the books, it’s been a challenge on how to transfer them to their destination.

Shout out to you Kate for all you’re doing! BIG HEART!
