What’s the most personal song off his debut album? His go to drink? First Tattoo? Favorite Biggie Song? And his most used emoji? Find out that and more as you get to know Toronto rapper Tory Lanez.
Lanez is one of the more versatile commercial artists to surface during the early 2010s. A songwriter and producer who fuses R&B and rap. His vocals alternate between swift and rugged to smooth and sensitive. He made steady strides with numerous mixtapes, guest appearances, and self-directed videos. In July 2015, he released “Say It,” which peaked the following February at number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. He landed his second Hot 100 placement with “LUV,” which led to his debut album “I Told You” released on August 19, 2016. Lanez launched his career by flooding fans with free tracks, so it’s a pleasant surprise that his first studio album feels more polished and more raw. It’s full of rich vocals, catchy hooks, and songs about flirting and fame.
Some of my favorite tracks off the album (besides Say It, LUV and LA Confidential) are: Flex, To D.R.E.A.M. and Friends With Benefits.
