Starbucks Will Close U.S. Stores on May 29 For Racial-Bias Training

T.I. Suggests Starbucks Boycott After Racist Incident…

Two men entered a Starbucks in Philadelphia last Thursday and asked to use to the bathroom. An employee told them it was only for paying customers, so they then sat in the store without ordering anything. After the manager asked them to leave and they refused, she called police and the men were arrested for trespassing. Starbucks did not follow through with pressing charges.

Starbucks will close it’s doors on May 29 in the afternoon (you can still get your morning coffee) to cover issues such as implicit bias and conscious inclusion to about 175,000 workers.

Boycott threats swept the nation following what happened and T.I. was one of those who called for a national boycott.

Will you boycott or is Starbucks a morning, midday, or afternoon tradition that you can’t go without?

Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson issued this apology on behalf of his company,

“This is not who we are, and it’s not who we are going to be.”

According to Business Insider, This will mark only the second time that Starbucks has closed all locations for training efforts. The last time the company did something similar was in 2008, when the then struggling chain shut down all US locations to retrain employees on improving the “Starbucks Experience” by boosting technical abilities and customer service.
