There’s a lot of talk lately about DJ’s..

I’ve noticed (especially online and via social media) this year a lot of talks about the evolution of DJing today. Let me start by saying I am in no way stating that my thoughts or opinions on the subject are the “right ones”. My love affair with music, turntables and records has grown since my first experience as a child discovering my own tastes for music, to the influences on Bay Area (CA) radio shows in the 90’s and beyond. I got my first turntable in ’97. Friends I surrounded myself with were scratch nerds too. My idols were DMC competitors. My favorite radio shows to record on cassette were mix shows that were creative musically and DJ’s with “hand skills”. I remember when things began to go digital, CDJ’s to MP3-based software. I gladly jumped in to Serato for the creative aspect AND convenience.

With the path I’ve been fortunate enough to be on professionally for over 13+ years now I’ve seen things move to the mainstream and popularity. Celebrities getting in on the action. Turntablists I’ve looked up to carve out their own genres musically, and create their own labels. EDM shows becoming fully-fledged festivals. I can go on and on. To me, whatever you’re on (turntables, CDJ’s, Controllers whatever) isn’t what makes you a DJ. It’s the passion for your art. Mine happens to be turntable-based. Driven by creativity and techniques.

DJ CRAZE was not only one of those inspirations for me early on, but proves in a world where media wants to clown on this art we love called DJing that there are different definitions of it. This is what a #REALDJ is to me. (NSFW WITH SOME EXPLICIT LANGUAGE)
