The Jackson family patriarch, Joe Jackson, has reportedly died in a Las Vegas hospital at the age of 89.
His health began to decline in 2016, and he was recently hospitalized for terminal cancer, although no official cause of death has been reported. Joe’s passing coincidentally comes just two days after the 9-year death anniversary of his son, Michael Jackson.
As a father/manager to Michael, Janet, and the rest of the Jackson 5, Joe was notorious for his strong-handed ways and abilities to hone the musical talents of his children. Joe admitted to verbal and physical discipline of his children, and said in a 2013 interview with CNN:
“I’m glad I was tough, because look what I came out with,” he said. “I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world. And they treated everybody right.”
Joe posted this tweet to his official Twitter amount on Sunday: “I have seen more sunsets than I have left to see. The sun rises when the time comes and whether you like it or not the sun sets when the time comes.”
