TODAY IN HIP HOP HISTORY: DR. DRE DROPS ‘COMPTON’

Dr. Dre fans waited 15 years for the release of Detox, Dre’s highly-anticipated 3rd studio album which was often delayed. However, on August 1st, 2015, Dre announced that he would scrap Detox entirely because it did not meet his standards and would replace it with Compton: A Soundtrack by Dr. Dre.

The album released August 7th, 2015 and was met with widespread praise. To nobody’s surprise, he locked in features from Kendrick Lamar, Anderson Paak, Ice Cube, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, and Eminem, to name a few.

The masterpiece dropped just days before the release of the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton and set the tone for both to become staple pieces in Hip Hop.
