U.S. Army Confirms Text Messages Telling People They’ve Been Drafted Are Fake

Individuals around the country have been receiving text messages claiming they have been drafted into the Army.

Some of the messages have stated that the person needs to report for immediate departure to Iran. Other messages have said that the recipient would be fined and would be sent to jail for a minimum of six years. It is not clear what the sender is trying to get from the recipient but what has occurred is a flood of calls and emails to the U.S. Army Recruiting Command. The U.S. Army has released a statement confirming the messages are indeed fake. A draft can not be active until an actual war is declared and lawmakers would have to approve of a draft.

Have you received a text message about the draft?
