After two of Randall Margraves’s daughters gave statements regarding how former doctor, Larry Nassar, sexually assaulted them, Margraves decided to take matters into his own hands.
He asked Judge Janice Cunningham if “a distraught father” could make a statement, which she granted to him. He began by asking the judge to “grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon.” When she declined, he asked again if he could have 1 minute with him, to which she told him that was not possible.
Margraves then lunged at Nassar as he sat shackled at the ankles next to his lawyers, after which, he was taken down by officers and escorted out of the courtroom. He spent time in a holding cell, but later stood in the courtroom and apologized for his actions. “I’m not here to upstage my daughters,” Margraves told the judge. “I’m here to help them heal.”
Judge Cunningham stated that she does not condone the violence, but also that there is “no way this court is going to issue any type of punishment, considering the circumstances.”
