Clipse Sound the Horns: “Ace Trumpets” Heralds a Triumphant Return
After a 16-year hiatus, Virginia Beach‘s formidable duo, Clipse, comprised of brothers Pusha T and No Malice, have reemerged with their latest single, “Ace Trumpets”. This track serves as the lead single from their forthcoming album, Let God Sort Em Out, slated for release on July 11 via Roc Nation Distribution. Listen below.
A Sonic Renaissance
Produced entirely by longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams, the track diverges from the classic Neptunes sound, offering a sparse yet kinetic backdrop that complements the duo’s vivid, venomous tales of street enterprise. The beat is characterized by a menacing synth drone, rimshot snares, and chest-caving bass, creating an atmosphere of creeping tension reminiscent of Pusha T‘s 2022 album, It’s Almost Dry.
Lyrical Mastery
Pusha T delivers his signature sharp, clever lyrics with lines like, “White glove service with brick, I am Luigi,” showcasing his revitalized energy alongside his brother. No Malice, returning from a spiritual journey that led him away from rap, proves he hasn’t lost a step. His verse is a masterclass in consistency and wit, maintaining the same rhyme scheme throughout and delivering lines such as, “Never leaving home without my piece like I’m Mahatma,” and “Dressed in House of Gucci/Made from selling Lady Gaga.”
A Visual and Artistic Statement
The album’s artwork, designed by contemporary artist KAWS, continues the duo’s tradition of blending music with striking visual art. This collaboration marks the second time KAWS has lent his talent to Clipse, the first being their 2009 album, Til the Casket Drops.
Anticipation Builds
Recorded at Louis Vuitton‘s Paris headquarters, Let God Sort Em Out promises to be a powerful resurgence for Clipse, bringing their storied partnership into a new era. As fans eagerly await the album’s release, “Ace Trumpets” stands as a testament to the duo’s enduring chemistry and musical synergy.
